About 2344 (Longbenton) Squadron

Who We Are

2344 (Longbenton) Squadron is a dynamic and inclusive unit within the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC), based in Longbenton, Newcastle upon Tyne. We welcome young people aged 12 to 20 who are eager to explore aviation, adventure, and personal development. As one of the largest squadrons in the North East, we offer a diverse range of activities designed to challenge and inspire.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote and encourage a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force among young people, provide training useful in both the Services and civilian life, and foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship.

What We Offer

  • Flying and Gliding: Experience the thrill of flight and gain valuable aviation knowledge.
  • Adventure Training: Participate in activities like hiking, camping, and fieldcraft to build resilience and teamwork.
  • STEM Projects: Engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics initiatives that challenge and educate.
  • Leadership Exercises: Develop leadership skills through structured training and real-world applications.
  • Community Engagement: Take part in local events and volunteer opportunities to give back to the community.

Our cadets also have the chance to attend camps, both in the UK and abroad, providing exposure to different cultures and environments.

Our History

Established in the heart of Longbenton, our squadron has a rich history of developing young individuals into confident and capable members of society. Our location is steeped in history, situated on the site of the former RAF Longbenton, a Second World War Balloon Command base that protected the North-East’s skies until its closure in 1963.
